art:berlin - Cycling tour through Wedding - modern architecture between Gesundbrunnenviertel and Volkspark Rehberge
Incentive
The new bicycle tour leads to modernist buildings that were realised in 1920 with the founding of the Wedding district on the northern edge of the old inner-city residential quarters between Badstraße, Müllerstraße and Volkspark Rehberge. Alongside today's World Heritage housing estates are remarkable testimonies to early industrial and working-class culture, life reforms around 1900 and today, and fantastic green spaces. Local architects such as the little-known city architect Friedrich Hellwig, the renowned offices of Mebes/Emmerich and Jean Krämer, and the internationally renowned Ludwig Mies van der Rohe all contributed to the quality of life in this area.
