Symposium: Filming Improvisation – Improvising with Film
The 10th symposium at the exploratorium berlin is dedicated to the relationship between improvisation and film as well as film documentation. The potential of the medium of film in relation to improvised events and their interaction will also be addressed. The focus is on contemporary, free musical improvisation and innovative, experimental approaches to filmmaking.
The aim of the symposium is to bring together scientists, filmmakers, musicians and artists to explore both the film documentation of improvised musical events and the experimental possibilities of improvisation in film.
The event will be held in English.
The symposium on February 1 and 2, 2025 is public and free (donation-based). To participate, please register by January 26, 2025
The symposium starts on January 31st at 8 p.m. with Sound & Lecture No. 25: Film – Sound – Improvisation
The silent film pianist Eunice Martins will improvise with a quartet of her choice, Sofia Borges, Cecilia Caroline Tallone and Eric Wong, to a total of five experimental silent films, mainly from the 1910s to 1920s, followed by a conversation with host Mathias Maschat.
